Christine Kaltoft’s jewellery is inspired by quickly drawn graphic lines; she likes to capture a sense of their energy and create exuberant and sometimes whimsical jewellery.
Much of her current collection is based on sketches of her pet chickens and other birds grazing, flapping and playing. A trip to see some decoy duck carvers at work was pivotal in helping her realise that what she wanted to portray wasn’t what she saw, it was a sense of the moment and how she felt when she saw (or heard) something.
Some of Christine’s work is also informed by drawings of music and other sounds she encounters.
She uses silver and 18 carat gold wires as her basic palette, sometimes counter- balancing or highlighting them with materials such as wood, precious or semi-precious stones, or anodised aluminium.
