Elizabeth’s principle interest is the broad theme of conflict, as seen almost daily in the media, horrifying yet removed, seamlessly accompanying television commercials. ‘In Memoriam’ series marks incidents of conflict.
In 1999 this work was extended to mark the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Postcards
from the First World War have triggered her most recent works, ‘Postcards from the Front’’. Pre printed on manila
and issued by the Field Service, soldiers deleted non-applicable sentences, while personal messages were censored.
The physical qualities of enamel invite touch and offer lasting imagery appropriate for commemorative works, essential to her intention.
She finds simple drawing, painting and printmaking approaches in enamel offer endless possibilities of surface, subtle to the sumptuous, unavailable in other media.
